Sewing Machine Cover

Made this cover for my machine out of some pretty fabric I had! I like it!
Unfortunately though, I haven't finished my first quilt yet because I am hired making a quilt for my cousin and have turned most of my focus to that. (Or at least tried to focus on it). Have a nice day!                                                                            -Amber

Better Pictures!

I'm so happy with all the sewing I am getting done! I'm nearing the quilting phase of my quilt and i'm so excited!!! I though I would give better pictures because the last one I put up was horrible.  -Amber :)

So much of the front done!! :) (7/13 rows!)
On other ladies' quilt blogs, they always have pictures of their cuddly little cats lounging all over their quilts. I was jealous, so I had my silly little dog Jake lay on mine! I guess he does just as well.
The backing fabric along side the front, I think that the colors are going to look great together!!!
(ignore that cheese-it on the quilt, we had to get the dog to sit still somehow!;)

Progress!

I'm so excited that i'm actually getting closer to a finished quilt! Yesterday I went to joanns and got my backing fabric and some warm & natural! My mom swears that green and pink don't match, but my quilt is going to look lovely :) I have sewn 4 rows and 9 more rows of blocks to go! Sorry for the poor picture quality.

Hey everyone!

So, I haven't posted in almost a month. For a quilt update, all of my 195 squares are sewed half ways, and I half 100 left to square off! Maybe on the weekend. Batting coming soon. For today's post though, I thought I would share my thimble collection! I have collected them since I saw one when I was little and though it was so pretty! I didn't even know what it was for, and it says September (my birthday is in March). So far I have 27 thimbles. Today I was gifted 4 new thimbles that my boyfriends mom found! Someday I hope to snatch a few from my grandma's  lovely collection. Here is a picture of all of them lined up, maybe soon I will do a few close ups! I will try to post as soon as I can! Please come back to read more.

Quilt Update!

Hello! Sorry I haven't made a post for a very long time. I have a lot less time to work on my quilt since I started it on Christmas break because I have school again now. If I have a snow day soon i'll get a lot done! Although, this was a weekend so I accomplished quite a bit! I finally go all of my squares cut out!!! Now I just have to sew the rest of them, iron and square. Then I am on my way to a finished quilt top! So excited! Please come back to read more and Leave comments or email me about anything quilt related, including advice and tips! Thanks!

Gotta love the holidays!

Joann Fabrics sale

I was so excited about the great deals at Joann's today! Even though I only went to look around I ended up coming out with a much needed bigger cutting mat! I got a 18''x24'' for just $16.19!! (The green one below). I was so excited! It is such an improvement from the tiny one I was working with before. My quilter's ruler I ordered is in the mail! All cutting mats and rotary cutters are 40% off along with a lot of other great things in the store! I also came out with some tailor's chalk and some needle threaders to make my life easier! Take advantage of the great sale! I would love to get some comments! Have a happy and safe New Years everyone!

Helpful Tutorial on Layering/Assembly!

I found this tutorial while surfing the web for quilting ideas. It shows step by step how to assemble all of the pieces of a quilt together (which I didn't know how to do before). The only thing it really doesn't show is how to bind the edges (which I think I understand from searching the web multiple times). Plus, she made a beautiful sheep quilt to model with! Enjoy!

New Additions

Additions to my sewing kit

Yesterday I was lucky enough to go spend some of my Christmas money which was mostly in Walmart gift cards. I bought the rest of my fabric needed to finish my quilt front and a few new things to fill a sewing kit.  (A very measly sewing kit, but it works for me). My purchases included more bobbins, a new stich ripper, quilting needles for my machine, and a box for pins (I prefer a box for pins to a pin cushion). I am also making more progress and getting more squares cut out today! And with designing future quilts. I am looking into buying some quilting templates as well. Does anyone have any input on using templates? What do you keep in your sewing kit?  Have a nice day!

My First Quilt

Going out on a limb

I have done small projects with normal square quilting, (which is of course lovely! such as the pillow above from home ec. class) but for my first full quilt, I wanted something a little less simple, a little more versatile. I decided to go with a simple herringbone pattern (this one made with half squares), inspired by the Crafty Blossom blog! (craftyblossom.blogspot.com, well worth visiting!). I like the solids for the front with patterns on the back like she uses.

I chose electric green (green is my favorite color) and a slate gray for my quilt face. Today being the day after Christmas and with the snow storm we have going on outside, I had a lot of time to work on this.  Today I got 64 squares done, and found that I needed to buy more fabric to finish my squares with.
My method was to put a green and gray square on top of one another (right sides together), cut diagonally in half, pin, and sew.
This is my progress so far, which I am very proud of! I will keep you posted as I get closer to a completed quilt! I would love to hear any tips or comments anyone has! Thanks for visiting!
